Arran 13 Year Old Provenance 1997 is a single malt Scotch whisky from a single refill hogshead, bottled by Douglas Laing. Distilled in 1997, just two years after the distillery opened, this expression offers a transparent look at the early production style of the island spirit. The nose is fresh and coastal, with notes of sea spray, lemon peel, green apple and a touch of malted barley. On the palate, the whisky is light to medium-bodied and vibrant, displaying a clean structure and flavours of vanilla, poached pears and a gentle herbal edge. The finish is balanced and persistent, with a lingering citrus zest. This independent bottling captures the youthful energy and purity of the Arran spirit before the distillery’s shift towards more extensive wine cask finishing.

A Modern Classic

Founded in the mid-1990s by D-Day veteran Harold Currie, Arran is one of the newer distilleries in Scotland releasing their first bottling of single malt whisky in 1998. The team have been building up a core range as their whisky has matured, most recently adding an 18 year old to join their excellent 10, 12 and 14 year old editions. The distillery also regularly experiments with cask finished and limited editions.

In 2016, planning permission granted for the team to commence work on a second distillery named 'Lagg', located on the south of the island. Lagg distillery will specialise in peated whiskies, a style Arran have produced off and on since they were founded.
