A 31 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky, this expression hails from Ardbeg Distillery, situated on the south coast of Islay, Scotland. Distilled in 1974, it spent over three decades in a single Sherry butt, achieving a cask strength of 47.5% ABV. The 1974 vintage, renowned for its structural integrity, exhibits a complex interplay of tar, smoked kippers, and dark chocolate, underpinned by the Sherry cask`s influence, which introduces notes of balsamic sweetness and dried fruits. Its texture is notably oily, with a long-lasting finish that captures the essence of traditional distilling methods before the industry`s modern phase.
One of Scotland's most famous distilleries, Ardbeg is located on the isle of Islay, off the rugged west coast of Scotland. Founded in the early 1800s by John McDougall, the distillery has long been renowned for the heavily peaty spirits that flows from its stills. Ardbeg fell silent for eight years in the 1980s and distillation ceased. It was closed again the mid-1990s shortly before it was acquired by Glenmorangie, who restored the distillery to its former glory.
The distillery maintains around four core expressions, including the highly acclaimed Uigeadail, and regularly releases a number of themed limited editions as part of their committee release series and the annual "Ardbeg Day" celebrations.
