This Ardbeg 29 Year Old Single Cask 2740 1974, a product of the renowned Islay distillery founded in 1815, showcases the distillation techniques of a pivotal era. Matured for 29 years in a single Sherry butt, it reaches an ABV of 51.2%. The 1974 vintage is distinguished for its high phenolic content, resulting in robust flavours characteristic of the island`s whisky. Expect a complex aroma of tar and smoked kippers, complemented by dark chocolate and notes of dried fruits. Its substantial, oily mouthfeel and enduring maritime finish illustrate the interplay between intense Islay peat and seasoned oak.

An Islay Icon

One of Scotland's most famous distilleries, Ardbeg is located on the isle of Islay, off the rugged west coast of Scotland. Founded in the early 1800s by John McDougall, the distillery has long been renowned for the heavily peaty spirits that flows from its stills. Ardbeg fell silent for eight years in the 1980s and distillation ceased. It was closed again the mid-1990s shortly before it was acquired by Glenmorangie, who restored the distillery to its former glory.

The distillery maintains around four core expressions, including the highly acclaimed Uigeadail, and regularly releases a number of themed limited editions as part of their committee release series and the annual "Ardbeg Day" celebrations.
