The Antica Terra Antikythera Pinot Noir 2021 showcases the distinct terroir of Oregon`s Willamette Valley. The wine opens with earthy notes reminiscent of forest undergrowth, accompanied by hints of cranberry and cherry akin to the region’s signature varietals. Subtle accents of damp earth and wild mushroom are present, alongside a backbone of fine-grained tannins. Antica Terra, founded by Maggie Harrison, is known for its meticulous vineyard practices, striving to enhance the natural expression of each vintage.

Exotic from the first tilt of the glass, the 2021 Pinot Noir Antikythera tempts the imagination with a kaleidoscopic bouquet as flowery undergrowth and wet stone evolve into a collage of rosemary and sage, giving way to blue and red florals and crushed blackberries. Seamlessly silky in form yet nearly weightless in feel, this hovers across the palate with waves of ripe wild berry fruit intertwined with saline minerals and hints of spice. A liquid violet concentration lingers along with a pleasantly bitter tinge as the 2021 finishes gently tannic and with amazing length, leaving notes of sour cherry that pucker the cheeks. Bold and Beautiful

Antica Terra is the exciting project of ex-Sine Qua Non assistant winemaker Maggie Harrison in the Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. This large-scale investment project was established in a bid to create Oregon Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays (though Roussanne features too) that would stand shoulder to shoulder with the great wines in the world.

The primary focus is Pinot Noir, with no fewer than seven different Pinot Noir clones grown on the estate. Forensic attention is paid to the quality of the grapes which produce Antica Terra wines. Harrison’s winemaking, meanwhile, is very simple: natural ferments, manually punchdowns and foot-treading of the grapes, siphons and buckets used to transfer wine into barrel rather than electric pumps, no cold settling, no racking; then simply ageing on the lees before bottling without fining or filtration. The result is wines of exceptional quality and immense personality.
