Antica Terra Antikythera Pinot Noir 2011 is a single-vineyard wine from the Eola-Amity Hills AVA in Oregon. The vineyard is characterised by its diverse soil composition, contributing to the wine’s complexity and depth. This expression presents a vivid ruby hue and a bouquet defined by mineral notes intertwined with red fruit, dried herbs and subtle earthy undertones. On the palate, it showcases precise flavours of cherry and raspberry, complemented by a hint of spice and underlying earthiness. The wine is crafted by renowned winemaker Maggie Harrison.

Vivid ruby-red. A heady mineral- and spice-accented bouquet displays candied red berries, lavender, incense and cola, with a hint of smokiness in the background. Pure and sharply focused, offering pliant raspberry liqueur and floral pastille flavors that are lifted and sharpened by a touch of bitter blood orange. Finishes sweet and penetrating, with supple tannins and lingering spice and mineral tones. This energetic but deeply flavored pinot, which comes from the winery's estate vineyard, checks in at just 12.5% alcohol, which is decidedly low as Maggie Harrison's wines go.Josh Raynolds1st July 2014

Bold and Beautiful

Antica Terra is the exciting project of ex-Sine Qua Non assistant winemaker Maggie Harrison in the Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. This large-scale investment project was established in a bid to create Oregon Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays (though Roussanne features too) that would stand shoulder to shoulder with the great wines in the world.

The primary focus is Pinot Noir, with no fewer than seven different Pinot Noir clones grown on the estate. Forensic attention is paid to the quality of the grapes which produce Antica Terra wines. Harrison’s winemaking, meanwhile, is very simple: natural ferments, manually punchdowns and foot-treading of the grapes, siphons and buckets used to transfer wine into barrel rather than electric pumps, no cold settling, no racking; then simply ageing on the lees before bottling without fining or filtration. The result is wines of exceptional quality and immense personality.
