The 2021 Antica Terra Aequorin Chardonnay reveals a complex profile distinguished by scents of sun-dried hay and faint herbal notes. On the palate, it demonstrates an austere structure, characterised by sharp acidity and a saline edge. The citrus elements, specifically zesty lemon and lime, linger amid a backdrop of stony minerality, evident in hints of flint and oyster shell. The finish highlights its incisive clarity and marked length. Antica Terra, located in Oregon`s Willamette Valley, is known for its meticulous vineyard practices and minimal intervention winemaking.

A lovely touch of wood spice introduces the 2021 Chardonnay Aequorin as fresh hazelnut, spring flowers, lime and white peach form its enticing bouquet. This mixes savory and sweet, demonstrating amazing balance and poise as ripe orchard fruits and hints of confectionary spice are contrasted by the onset of salty minerals and ginger tones. It finishes incredibly long and full of tension, leaving a crunchy sensation and nuances of vanilla spice along with a tug of silky tannins. Simply stunning.Eric Guido1st August 2024

Bold and Beautiful

Antica Terra is the exciting project of ex-Sine Qua Non assistant winemaker Maggie Harrison in the Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. This large-scale investment project was established in a bid to create Oregon Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays (though Roussanne features too) that would stand shoulder to shoulder with the great wines in the world.

The primary focus is Pinot Noir, with no fewer than seven different Pinot Noir clones grown on the estate. Forensic attention is paid to the quality of the grapes which produce Antica Terra wines. Harrison’s winemaking, meanwhile, is very simple: natural ferments, manually punchdowns and foot-treading of the grapes, siphons and buckets used to transfer wine into barrel rather than electric pumps, no cold settling, no racking; then simply ageing on the lees before bottling without fining or filtration. The result is wines of exceptional quality and immense personality.
