Domaine Vincendeau Anjou Blanc Le Carré du Puits 2019 is a full-bodied dry white wine produced from organically farmed Chenin Blanc grapes in the Anjou appellation of the Loire Valley. Domaine Vincendeau was established in Rochefort sur Loire in 2014 and has farmed organically since day one. The property has been certified biodynamic since 2020. The domaine`s Le Carre du Puits cuvée comes from a small plot if extremely low-yielding 80-year-old Chenin Blan vines and was aged in new Tronceau oak barrels. This is a structured, expressive Chenin that is very much reflective of the domaine`s old vines and the area`s stony terroir.

The 2019 Le Carré du Puits is a deeply colored, rich and savory Chenin. In style, it heads toward the more natural spectrum of wine, being farmed biodynamically, wild fermented, unfined and with low total sulfur. Grown on vines planted way back in 1941, the yields are tiny, which can be perceived through the intense concentration on the palate. It's punchy and spicy with a deeply salty character on the brawny finish. You can expect savory, grilled nut flavors, cured bacon and bruised apple on the medium-long, bitter-in-a-good-way finish. I'd like to see a little more line and finesse coaxed from these rare grapes.Rebecca Gibb1st October 2023
