Angelus 2014 is a Right Bank Bordeaux blend from the Saint-Émilion appellation, crafted under the stewardship of Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, marking his 30th vintage. Château Angélus has been a classified First Grand Cru since 2012. The 2014 blend features Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and exhibits a deep, complex profile of black cherry, dark plum, graphite, violet and dark chocolate. The palate is dense and powerful, supported by firm, fine-grained tannins and a vibrant core of acidity, promising a long, authoritative evolution in the cellar.

Deep garnet-brick in color, the 2014 Angelus bursts on the scene with bold suggestions of baked plums and blackberry preserves followed by hints of sandalwood, cigar box, and cardamom. The medium to full-bodied palate is rich and plush, with great tension to lend lift though the long earthy finish.Lisa Perrotti-Brown5th March 2024

Medium to deep garnet in color, the 2014 Angélus needs a fair bit of coaxing to begin to reveal very pretty aromas of lilacs, kirsch, redcurrant jelly and Black Forest cake plus nuances of graphite and menthol. The palate is delicately intense with soft spoken floral and earth notes complimenting the black fruits, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long with compelling restraint. Sporting a good amount of tertiary nuances, it can be enjoyed right now, but make sure to decant it a good 1.5 to two hours prior to drinking. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2014 Angélus has an attractive nose with dark berry fruit, chocolate, singed leather and quite pronounced Cabernet Franc scents that lend complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and a very silky texture. Not a powerful Angélus, this is instead refined with impressive mineralité towards the finish. Classy and sophisticated. Just one caveat: another bottle tasted blind, was less convincing, and felt a little attenuated towards the finish, hence my slightly more parsimonious score. Neal Martin19th March 2024
