This is a fully mature offering from the illustrious St-Emilion estate, Angélus. It is a blend of around two-thirds Merlot and one-third Cabernet Franc and offers up elegant waves of dried fruits, sous bois, tobacco, dried porcini and cedar.

Vinous
The 1982 Angélus is a wine that I have not tasted for many years, predating the improvements inaugurated by Hubert de Boüard when he joined three years later. As such, it is a disappointing wine in context of the vintage. Tired on the nose with tobacco and leather scents that cannot compensate for the lack of fruit. Ditto, the palate lacks substance and vigour, attenuating towards a rather hollow finish. It just pales compared to the wines produced at the end of the same decade. Neal Martin27th September 2022

Chateau Angelus
A Right Bank Institution
This prestigious Saint-Émilion estate produces superb Right Bank Bordeaux and has been in the de Boüard family since 1782. Spanning 39ha, the Château Angélus estate is planted to 50% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, and full conversion to completely organic farming began in 2018.
The estate's vines are positioned with perfect southern exposure on a sloping vineyard where the soils on lower potion are sandier and the upper portion richer in limestone and clay - perfect for both Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Along with the Grand Vin, a second wine, Le Carillon d’Angélus, as well as a third wine, No 3 d’ Angélus, are also made.
