Almaviva 1997 represents a collaboration between the esteemed Château Mouton Rothschild and Chile`s Concha y Toro, aimed at crafting a wine that embodies both French techniques and Chilean terroir. This vintage showcases a deep ruby hue, revealing aromas of black currants and ripe cherries, accompanied by subtle hints of earthiness and oak. The palate is structured, with an interplay of dark fruit and herbal notes, underscored by fine tannins. This blend comprises 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Carmenère and 15% Cabernet Franc, reflecting the vineyard`s precise growing conditions.

Ripe black fruits on the nose with some game. Much less obviously French than the 1996. Rich, opulent with some briary autumnal character. Chewy finish but with more succulent fruit than the 1996 even if the wine is a little simpler. Nice kick of appetising tannins at the end. (JR)
