The Albariño Sketch Raúl Pérez 2021 is a cult white wine from Rías Baixas, crafted by the highly regarded winemaker Raúl Pérez. This single-vineyard Albariño is sourced from old vines, up to 80 years old, located in Meaño, a site so close to the Galician coast that it is heavily influenced by the Atlantic. The wine is fermented in large, neutral 750-litre French oak barrels to preserve the purity of the terroir and is aged in the same barrels for 12 months without malolactic fermentation. The 2021 vintage is defined by its laser-sharp precision, offering a an expressive profile of citrus and green herbs, with intense marine and mineral notes that lead to a vibrant, austerely elegant finish.

New Wave Spanish Winemaking

Raul Perez is one of Spain’s most revered winemakers, credited with breathing new life into Bierzo in the northwest of the country. Since parting ways with his family’s estate in 2004, Perez has built a global reputation for crafting expressive, terroir-driven wines that highlight the region’s native varieties, especially Mencía and Godello. With an instinctive connection to the land and a dedication to restoring historic vineyards, his approach has inspired a new generation of winemakers while proving that Bierzo belongs on the world stage. Pérez’s wines are all about purity and place. Using low-intervention techniques like whole bunch fermentation, natural yeasts, and neutral oak, he crafts wines that are both elegant and energetic, often from incredibly small plots.

From the remarkable value of his Ultreia range to the site-specific character of La Vizcaína bottlings, every wine reflects a thoughtful, hands-off approach that lets the vineyard shine. Minimal intervention, maximum expression, this is modern Spanish winemaking at its most exciting.
