David Abreu produces remarkably profound single-vineyard wines in minute quantities. The 2014 Madrona Ranch is a compelling wine with startling aromatic intensity and complexity. On the nose it is saturated with black fruits, vanilla, exotic spice and cedar. The palate is full-bodied and fruit-drenched but perfectly supported by fine-grained and deliciously ripe tannins.

The 2014 Madrona Ranch is a superb Abreu wine. Powerful, savory and wonderfully complex in the glass, the Madrona has it all. Dark red-toned fruit, chalk, mint, rose petal and blood orange are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass. The 2014 remains young, full of energy and stunning in its beauty. Stylistically, Madrona Ranch offers an intriguing mix of old-school Napa savoriness (because of the clonal selections planted here) with a modern conception of farming and winemaking.Antonio Galloni1st January 2025

Terroir Driven Cabernet Sauvignon

David Abreu established his eponymous winery in the 1980s, purchasing the Madrona Ranch and converting it into a mix of farmland and vineyards. The Thorevilos and Capella vineyards were added a few years later and Las Posadas, a Howell Mountain vineyard, was added to the estate's holdings in the year 2000. The result is something quite unique in Napa - a collection of distinct sites all producing world class, terroir-driven Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaker for the last 20 years is former chef turned viticulturist Brad Grimes. Brad keeps the focus of the estate firmly set on the founder's original goal - to emulate the finest wines of Pauillac and Margaux. Based on the long waiting list and never-ended near-perfect critic scores, he's hit a home run in that department.
