Aalto 2013 is a Ribera del Duero red wine crafted from Tempranillo grapes sourced from a selection of vineyards, primarily around La Horra. Established in 1999 by Javier Zaccagnini and Mariano García, Aalto has solidified its presence as a leading producer in the Spanish wine scene. The 2013 vintage Aalto showcases a combination of traditional methods and modern techniques, with grapes meticulously sorted in refrigerated conditions before vinification. Ageing occurs in French oak barriques for approximately 16-18 months, balancing new and used barrels. The wine presents concentrated dark fruit and earthy undertones, supported by structured tannins and sufficient acidity for longevity.

The 2013 Aalto is a lighter wine, with less color, more freshness as it should be in a cooler vintage. It has a bright color which also denotes high acidity. The year was not easy and they had to work more on the origin of grapes: it has less from La Horra and more from La Aguilera, a cooler village, both in the province of Burgos, because in La Horra they had more frost problems. It's aged in less than 30% new barrels and the oak feels better integrated, definitively less oaky than other vintages. The nose has a combination of red and black fruit, spicy aromas and a sense of freshness, with even some violets. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with very fine tannins, abundant but well padded by juicy fruit, good acidity and freshness. This is a lot more fluid and balanced, with better-integrated oak than in the past. This is a fresher Aalto that should age nicely in bottle. 175,000 bottles were filled in July 2015 after 18 months in barrel.Luis Gutierrez30th October 2015

Deep ruby. Spicy, highly perfumed aromas of raspberry, fresh flowers and allspice, with a smoky overtone. Juicy, penetrating red berry, cherry-cola, spicecake and floral pastille flavors show very good energy, with zesty acidity providing lift. Fine-grained tannins give shape to the sexy floral finish. On the delicate side for Aalto--and likely to be approachable soon. This wine went though malo in large French oak vats and was then aged for 20 months in barriques, about a third of them new French (it's normally 50% new) and the rest used French and American.Josh Raynolds1st December 2015

Crafting Ribera's Finest Elegance

In 1999, Mariano García and Javier Zaccagnini founded Aalto with the vision of creating world-class wines in Ribera del Duero. Mariano, a former winemaker at Vega Sicilia, and Javier, once the head of the Ribera del Duero regulatory council, bring unparalleled expertise to the project. Aalto's vineyards, comprising 130 hectares of old Tinto Fino vines, are scattered across nine municipalities, ensuring rich diversity in their wines. The modern winery in Quintanilla de Arriba, designed with minimalist elegance, utilizes gravity flow for gentle handling of the grapes. Aalto's wines, known for their depth, balance, and aging potential, reflect the true character of their prestigious region.
