Built entirely from the rare ‘Hogmanay casks’ filled in the 1970s as a symbolic farewell to one year and welcome to the next, this 46-year-old blended malt carries a beautifully evocative seasonal character. The nose is rich and syrupy, full of sticky jam, brown sugar and comforting notes of treacle scone and Dundee cake, with a warming thread of ginger wine. The palate continues this festive indulgence, where oak, spice and sweetness find an elegant balance that feels both nostalgic and refined.

Drawing on parcels of both European and American oak, A Fond Farewell is a whisky shaped by tradition and time – casks laid down for sentiment that have matured into something genuinely special. Deeply spiced, warm and resonant, it is a celebration of old-fashioned craftsmanship and the layers of complexity that only decades of ageing can reveal.

Age, Provenance and Rarity

For almost one hundred years, generations of the Gordon family have carefully laid down stocks of whisky for special occasions and personal consumption. This rare collection has become known as House of Hazelwood, after the family’s Dufftown home – Hazelwood House.

Today, the collection has grown to become the greatest inventory of aged Scotch whisky held anywhere in the world. Spanning seven decades and every corner of Scotland. The House of Hazelwood range represents the first time bottlings from these casks have been made available to the public. Each whisky is as interesting as it is unique whether they are rare old blends which have been maturing for decades or casks from long-closed distilleries.
