Kalmoesfontein White 2023 is the flagship field blend from Adi Badenhorst’s estate in the Swartland, sourced from old bush vines planted on decomposed granite. This 2023 bottling is a complex assembly of approximately 10 varieties, including Chenin Blanc, Roussanne and Verdelho, fermented together in old foudres and concrete tanks. It delivers a rich, textured profile of stone fruit, honeycomb and flinty minerals, balanced by a persistent pithy acidity and a subtle salinity. Winemaking involves minimal intervention and extended lees ageing, resulting in a wine of profound soul and structural depth. It stands as a benchmark for the New South Africa movement, offering a singular expression of the Paardeberg’s rugged and ancient terroir.

The 2023 White Blend Kalmoesfontein is a field blend that spends one year in very old foudres plus ten months in concrete. There is a touch of reduction on the nose, with honeysuckle and jasmine scents and ample white fruit. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, waxy in texture, with a bright and edgy, saline finish that urges you back for more. One of the best whites that Adi Badenhorst has made.
