La Grande Rue

Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France

Sandwiched between Romanée-Conti and La Tâche, La Grande Rue is a celebrated Grand Cru located in the Vosne-Romanée commune of the Côte de Nuits. This prime Pinot Noir-growing vineyard is a narrow 1.65ha monopole (making it one of the smallest appellations in France) owned by Domaine François Lamarche. Though every bit as fine a terroir as its Grand Cru neighbours, La Grande Rue is somewhat under-sung, partly because it does not have the hallowed name of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti attached to it, but also because it only received its Grand Cru status very recently, in 1992 – more than half-a-century after its Grand Cru neighbours.
