Julienas

Beaujolais, Burgundy, France

Juliénas is a cru village to the northern edge of Beaujolais. It is one of 10 crus in the Beaujolais region, neighbouring Saint-Amour, to the north, and Chénas, to the south. Owing to its impressive mosaic of different soil types – more than 200 distinct types, from granite to schist to sandstone to a diversity of clays, have been identified – Juliénas has a huge variability of terroir. However in general terms Juliénas noted for producing a medium-bodied style of Gamay red wine with soft fruits and gently spiced, floral overtones. These wines are generally recommended for early drinking.
