Saint-Aubin Murgers des Dents de Chien
Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France
Located high on the Côte d’Or escarpment overlooking the famed Chardonnay-producing Grands Crus of Le Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet, the Premier Cru of Murgers des Dents de Chien is one of the most-prized vineyards in St Aubin – if not the most-prized.
This oddly named Premier Cru takes its name from the dogs’ teeth-shaped stones piled like dry-stone walls up the side of the vineyard. Murgers des Dents de Chien is just a stone’s throw from Le Montrachet and Puligny Cailleret, though at a slightly more elevated position. The terroir of the 16ha vineyard, with its limestone and marl soils and southeasterly exposition, produces Chardonnay wines of real refinement, offering a beguiling combination of richness, fruitiness and mineral freshness. Typically medium-bodied, these wines are also capable of good medium to long-term ageing.
