Robert Parker
The 2019 Rosé de Noirs from Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier has hit a fine run of form since the 2016 vintage, offering a succulent, approachable style that trades on pretty redcurrant, raspberry and sweet clementine notes plumped up by just enough lees-aging texture and subtle ginger-biscuit richness beneath a settled, softening mousse. The vintage’s moderate acidity and easy structure mean it’s far from a tense or structured rosé, but rather a bright, detailed and attractive one. Interestingly, this has a little early-ripening red Pinot Noir Précoce added at disgorgement—a grape that Emma Rice at Hattingley Valley often subtly employed for sparkling rosé thanks to its forward fruit but low tannic extract.
