Oeno Pi Akulumbo Assyrtiko 2021 hails from the volcanic soils of Santorini, where the local name ‘Akulumbo’ references the active underwater volcano of the island. Crafted in the traditional Nykteri method, this vintage employs carefully selected overripe Assyrtiko grapes harvested about one month later than the bulk of the crop. The wine undergoes an extended sur lie ageing period in 1,600 litre amphorae for two years, enhancing its depth and complexity. Expect an interplay of ripe peach and candied citrus notes alongside a characteristic saline minerality. A firm acidity underlines its structure, making it suitable for pairing with rich seafood dishes and aged cheeses.

Showing a finer textured compared to the 2022 vintage, this wine offers a lighter color with prominent mineral, flinty and petroleum-like aromas. The OENO ? 2021 Santorini Akulumbo is made with late-harvest fruit harvested in September and clocks in with a 15% alcohol content. But the residual sugar is almost nonexistent (measuring between 2.2 to 2.3 grams per liter in both the 2022 and 2021 vintages). - Monica Larner
