Nyetimber 1086 2013 is a vintage, prestige-cuvée sparkling wine produced in West Sussex, England. Only made in the most exceptionally good vintages from the best vineyard parcels of the Nyetimber estate, 1086 is an exercise in elegance, texture and complexity, and undoubtedly one of the finest English sparkling wines. The 2013 is an assemblage of 51% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 9% Pinot Meunier. Producer note. "2013 was a vintage of pleasingly temperate conditions, with a fresh spring and summer, and calm conditions throughout, allowing for the gradual ripening and layered flavour development. Rich red apple, peach, and white rose petals meld with almond and clotted cream in a long, refined finish."
Having planted its first vines in West Sussex in 1988, Nyetimber was one of the forerunners of the fine English sparkling wine boom, producing traditional method sparkling wines from estate-grown Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes.
Based in the village of West Chiltington in a lea of the South Downs, Nyetimber owns vineyards in West Sussex, Hampshire and Kent, where the geology and soils – principally the same chalk seam which runs under Champagne, along with greensand – are particularly suited to producing world-class sparkling wines.
Head winemaker Cherie Spriggs and her winemaker husband Brad Greatrix work with meticulous attention to detail in the vineyards to ensure optimum fruit quality, while in the cellar, extended ageing and the benefit of an extensive collection of reserve wines ensures that each bottle leaving the winery displays a complexity and finesse which makes Nyetimber a benchmark producer of English sparkling wine.
