Form 50- to 90-year-old Blaufränkisch vines sourced in three parcels of this east-facing site, the 2019 Lutzmannsburg Ried Schwemmer opens with a clear, fresh and pure, even coolish yet intense and elegant, almost aristocratic nose of dark fruits, mocha, flint and limestone; and everything seamlessly fits together, giving this red wine unique purity and finesse. Burnt rubber notes represent the typical fine reduction of young Lutzmannsburg Blaufränkisch red wines. Smooth and round on the palate, with fine and juicy tannins structuring the ripe, intense yet also fresh dark fruit, this is a very elegant, almost polished yet also tartly fruity red that is reminiscent of certain Barbera d`Albas. The wine is really tart and still tight but also very fine, elegant and beautifully balanced. I`m not sure if there are finer Barberas like this out there in Piedmont, but Roland Velich prefers to compare Blaufränkisch with Barolo/Barbaresco anyway. This is simply a fantastic Blaufränkisch from Lutzmannsburg in central Burgenland that already tastes extremely well, even though it`s still super young. And very long and saline... 13.5% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted in April 2023. - Stephan Reinhardt

Three parcels on a south-facing slope at the south of the plateau. Loamy calcareous sand over limestone. Vines of 90, 60 and 50 years age.
Smells a little riper than the 2020, spicier. Deep, thick tannins, not as elegant as the 2020 but still very satisfying in its shape and balance. Long and moreish. Deep and velvety with an edge of freshness.
