The Glenfarclas 42-Year-Old Family Cask 3548, distilled in 1974 and bottled in 2016, is a single-cask, cask-strength example of this Speyside malt, showcasing the unique depth achieved in extended sherry-cask maturation. This particular bottling displays a deep bronze hue and an immense complexity, with a nose of old parchment, antique furniture, dark honey and tobacco leaf. The palate is extraordinarily smooth and rich, featuring layers of fruitcake, dark chocolate and ginger, achieving a refined balance between potent Sherry character and the subtle, dry influence of the decades spent in oak.

A Family Owned Distillery

Glenfarclas is one of very few privately owned Scottish distilleries having been in the hands of the Grant family for six generations from the mid-1800s until the present day. Glenfarclas operate three wash stills and four spirit stills and take their water from springs around the nearby Ben Rinnes mountain.

The distillery have a focus on high quality, flavourful spirits matched with high quality ex-Sherry barrels from Jerez de la Frontera. The core range is impressively consistent featuring a 10 year old, 15 year old, 18 year and 21 year old. A limited edition 30 year old is released annual and special mention should go to 105 Caskk Strength - a superb non-age-statement cask strength single malt bottled at 57.5% ABV.
