Eric Rodez Blanc de Blancs Edition 38 NV is a multi-vintage Champagne from the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay. This non-vintage expression is primarily crafted from Chardonnay, with Edition 38 indicating the significant contribution of reserve wines, which imparts depth and complexity. The wine undergoes partial fermentation in oak barrels, resulting in a structured profile with notes of citrus, brioche and almond, underscored by a pronounced chalky minerality.

Offering up aromas of smoky green orchard fruit, hazelnuts and waxy citrus that are delicately framed by their time in barrel, the latest rendition of Rodez`s NV Brut Blanc de Blancs is a medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy wine with a bright spine of acidity, a frothy mousse and a long, vinous and subtly oak-inflected finish. Unsurprisingly, its Ambonnay origins and Rodez`s style mark it just as much as its cépage.

Ambonnay. Bottled spring 2014. 95% fermented in oak and 95% no malo. Contains five or six different vintages. Dosage 3.5 g/l.Rather light, inexpressive nose. Delicate, ‘sharp’ Chardonnay on the palate but this somehow lacks a bit of conviction and focus. The acidity is very notable and certainly at the moment it’s a bit too austere for me. (JR)
