Marcassin Gauer Vineyard Upper Barn Chardonnay 1997 is a mature-vintage single-vineyard Chardonnay produced by the Marcassin winery in Sonoma, California. Founded in 1991, Marcassin (French for ‘young wild boar’) is a tiny winery located on the Sonoma Coast that focuses solely on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Having either worked or consulted for some of the region’s finest wineries (e.g. Peter Michael, Colgin and Bryant), the supremely talented owner and winemaker, Helen Turley, is considered to be one of the most influential figures in Californian wine. "This wine offers a compelling waxy, honeyed citrus, subtle toasty, lusty nose, followed by a full-bodied, fabulously concentrated mouthful of leesy, multi-layered Chardonnay exhibiting honeyed grapefruit, citrus, and mineral flavours. A powerful, multi-dimensional, long (nearly a minute) finish adds to this Chardonnay`s prodigious characteristics." Wine Advocate, 2000
