Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
Chablis, Burgundy, France
Located on single, steep slope on the left bank of the Serein river, Les Clos is widely recognised as being one of the finest, if not the finest, Grand Cru vineyard sites in Chablis. Les Clos’ south-west exposition produces Chardonnays which are among the most powerful and rich of any Chablis Grand Cru. The richness is counterbalanced, however, by Chablis’ trademark nervous acidity and fine mineral profile, both of which help to contribute to Les Clos’ excellent ageing potential.
In terms of soil profile, this large Grand Cru is stony with a higher proportion of limestone towards the top of the vineyard; deeper with more clay towards the bottom. However its homogeneity in one long, perfectly exposed contiguous strip of land makes Les Clos one of the most balanced and consistent of all the Chablis Grand Cru sites.
