Spanish White Wines

Spain's white wines tend to be overlooked for the country's reds, though there's an increasing shift towards excitement about Spanish white wines. Rioja's incredibly age-worthy whites, made primarily from Viura, also known as Macabeo, rival some of the top white Burgundies and are are also extremely rare (only a mere 10% of the region's production). If you're looking for something a little lighter and fresher, look no further than Galicia's Albarino grape, the same Alvarinho of Portugal's popular Vinho Verde. Rueda's Verdejo wines, which can be quite high in acidity and tropical in fruit, are increasingly appearing on wine lists, as well. And that's just the tip of the iceberg - there's a wide range of styles and flavour profiles found across Spain, making the white wines from the country a whole new world to discover.
