Mendoza

The largest winemaking province in Argentina, Mendoza’s vineyards experience overall desert-like conditions, protected from rain in the west by the Andes Mountains and from the east by the vast plains of the Argentine Pampas. Situated on the western frontier of Argentina, with the Andes Mountains representing the border with Chile, Mendoza is a relatively large province in winemaking terms, although production and grape growing is mostly clustered in the north, near Mendoza City.

Red wines dominate here, with black varieties accounting for 62% of plantings, most notably Malbec, in addition to Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Bordeaux style blends. Explore Bodega Catena Zapata’s unforgettable 100% Malbecs and their superlative Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon blends. Revel in the astonishing fruit intensity of Achaval Ferrer’s 100% Malbec reds, or delve into the fresh and vibrant Bordeaux-style blends from Cheval des Andes. In terms of white wines, look out for energetic and vibrant Chardonnays from Bemberg Estate Wines, excellent single vineyard Chardonnays from Catena Zapata and white Rhone-style blends from Corazón del Sol and Matervini.
