Maipo

The northernmost sub-region of Chile’s Central Valley, the Maipo Valley centres on the capital city of Santiago and is surrounded by the coastal ranges (resulting in warm and sunny growing conditions). The region boasts a reputation for high quality Cabernet Sauvignon, often with a distinctive cassis and minty note. A historic area for wine production, the Maipo Valley is home to many family-owned wineries, first established in the 19th century. Bordeaux red blends also play a prominent role here, with Cabernet Sauvignon finding elegant balance together with varieties including Carménère, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
