Beaujolais

Situated in eastern France, south of the Mâconnais, the region of Beaujolais is often considered part of greater Burgundy. The go-to grape here is Gamay (98% of grapes planted), with Pinot Noir also playing an important role. Somewhat warmer than the rest of Burgundy, Beaujolais is characterised by its continental climate and adequate rainfall, influenced by the moderating effect of the Saone River and the cold Mistral winds.

The Gamay variety produces wonderfully red fruited and fragrant red wines, with raspberry and cherry kirsch notes, and light to medium body and tannins. With refreshing levels of acidity, Beaujolais wines make a wonderfully flexible match for food pairings from roasted white meats to salads and cheeses. Offered at a range of price points and quality levels, from easy-drinking mid-week styles, through to Beaujolais-Villages and the Beaujolais Crus including Moulin- à-Vent, Fleurie, Brouilly, Morgon, Chiroubles and Saint-Amour to name but a few. Our shelves stock many of the key names on the Beaujolais scene – Daniel Bouland, Dutraive, Lucien Le Moine and Georges Duboeuf and many more.
