Pinot Blanc

A highly versatile white grape variety, known as ‘Pinot Blanc’ in France, ‘Pinot Bianco’ in north east Italy,  and ‘Weissburgunder’ in Germany. Most commonly grown in France and Italy, the variety is used to produce both still and sparkling dry wine styles. Pinot Blanc tends to produce refreshing, simple white wines with apple and pear character, together with high acidity.

In the prestigious Nuits-St-Georges in Burgundy, family-run domaine Henri Gorges is crafting refreshing white wines from Pinot Blanc, complete with notes of citrus and apple blossom. In the Italian Alto Adige meanwhile, the historic cooperative, Cantina Terlano boasts a well-established reputation for their incredibly long-lived wines made from Pinot Bianco, using lees aging to produce wines with beautiful complexity. Further afield in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, Kelley Fox Wines are offering a wonderfully mineral expression of this white variety. Happy exploring!
