Languedoc-Roussillon

Be transported to the warm climes of Southern France with the wines of the Languedoc-Roussillon, which boasts around 240,000 hectares under vine. Languedoc covers the French départements of Aude, Héraut and Gard, with vineyards stretching from the Spanish border to Nîmes. Showcasing predominantly red varieties (Carignan, Syrah, Grenache Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault) and local white varieties such as Piquepoul. The rugged and mountainous Roussillon covers the Pyrénées-Orientales département. Its warm and windy Mediterranean climate is home to the sumptuous fortified wines or Vins Doux Naturels (Banyuls, Rivesaltes and Maury). Key varieties for reds and rosés include Grenache Noir, Syrah, Carignan and Mourvèdre and Muscats and Macabeu for whites.

The result of such variety in the Languedoc-Roussillon: a plethora of styles: single variety and blends; reds, whites, rosés; still and fortified wines. The likes of Clos d’Ora and Coume del Mas are key names to seek out for reds, whilst Southern Rhône-style white blends from Domaine de La Grange des Pères are a real treat. Not to be missed are the glorious rosés from Sauvageonne in a stellar line up of formats.
