Since its inaugural commercially available vintage in 1968, Tenuta San Guido has consistently produced wine each year, except for 1969 and 1973.  The 1983 Sassicaia underwent a maturation period of 22 months in French wood barrels, primarily sourced from Tronçais and a smaller portion from Allier. These French barrels accounted for around 70% of the total, with over 2\/3 being new.
