Domaine Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 2001 is a mature 1er Cru Burgundy Pinot Noir from the hallowed Vosne-Romanée appellation of the Côte de Nuits. The 1er Cru vineyard of Malconsorts is located on the border with Nuits-St-Georges, and immediately adjacent to La Tâche. In good vintages, it is considered by many Burgundy lovers to be a Grand Cru in all but name. "A touch of wood frames a maturing nose of secondary fruit, spice, earth and hints of dried rose petal leads to dense and quite serious middle weight flavours that possess a taut muscularity and plenty of palate soaking dry extract that really coats the mouth on the gorgeously long and impeccably well-balanced finish. This is a stunner of a Malconsorts that has just arrived on the front edge of its peak drinkability and as such, it should continue to provide much pleasure and satisfaction for years to come.
