Tyrell’s Vat 1 Semillon is widely considered to be Australia’s best Semillon and arguably one of the best in the world. It was first made in 1963 and is only ever made using fruit from their best old-vine vineyards, some of which were planted in 1923.
The 2009 Vat 1 is rich, round and expressive, with notes of lemon, lime, peach and spices. With a good amount of bottle age, it is also beginning to show more mature notes of citrus peel, lanolin, smoke and honey. Though still another strong release, this will perhaps come to full maturity a little earlier than other vintages.
