Tyrell’s Vat 1 Semillon is widely considered to be Australia’s best Semillon and arguably one of the best in the world. It was first made in 1963 and is only ever made using fruit from their best old-vine vineyards, some of which were planted in 1923.
The 2005 is absurdly youthful and is still many years away from hitting its peak. It is an incredibly expressive wine, offering up abundant aromas and flavours of lime, yuzu, lemongrass and crushed stones, with subtly mature notes of smoke, lanolin and citrus peel.
