Timo Mayer Close Planted Pinot Noir 2017

Timo Mayer is a maverick winemaker making miniscule quantities of wonderfully terroir-driven wines from single vineyards in the Yarra Valley, Victoria. The Close Planted Pinot Noir comes from a small portion of the Bloody Hill vineyard where vines are just 75cm apart. Never afraid of a bit of funk or stalky savouriness, he includes 50% whole bunches and ferments only using natural yeasts. This is a captivating wine that is incredibly well-balanced, bringing delicious waves of crunchy red berry fruits interwoven with forest floor notes, subtly stemmy herbiness and complex mineral depth.
