Tara is an innovative project exploring viticulture and winemaking in the extreme terroir of the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. Production is exceptionally limited (sometimes only a few hundred bottles) and focuses on three varieties, Chardonnay Pinot Noir and Syrah, from a single vineyard situated just 22km from the Pacific Ocean.
Red Wine 2 is a blend of 58% Syrah and 43% Merlot, fermented separately with indigenous yeasts and matured in fifth use French barrels. It is highly distinctive and complex, with intense notes of black fruits, herbs and graphite. Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, it has lovely bright acidity and intriguing mineral tension. Best served with food, this would be excellent with roasted lamb.
