Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars was founded in 1970 by Warren Winiarski and is arguably one of the most important California wineries having won the Cabernet Sauvignon competition at the famous 1976 Judgement of Paris. Cask 23 was first produced in 1974 after consultant winemaker, Andre Tchelistcheff, declared that one particular cask was so beautiful and distinct that it merited a separate bottling. 1999 was initially a vintage renowned for broody and tannic wines, yet with time in bottle, many have blossomed into beautiful expressions of Cabernet with lovely purity and depth.
