In 1998, Michel Chapoutier and Ron Laughton (Jasper Hill) planted new vineyards in Heathcote, Victoria, with Syrah cuttings taken from the hillside of Tain l’Hermitage in the Northern Rhone. The 2014 La Pléîade is a rich and intense wine, with complex aromas of red berries and spices. On the palate it is full-bodied, powerful and precise, but has wonderful elegance and finesse, typical of Syrah from this slightly cooler sub-region. This should cellar well for at least 20 years.
