Produced from 14 rugged vineyard blocks planted on an amphitheatre-shaped piece of land in Stags Leap District, Napa Valley, Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon from legendary Napa producer, Shafer Vineyards, must surely rank as one of the greatest red wines of California. The 2014 is complex, pure and immaculately balanced. Initial waves of gloriously rich black fruits segue to wonderfully deep notes of grilled herbs, embers, cedar and graphite. Yet another sublime release with at least 20 years of cellaring potential.
