The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select has developed along the lines of finesse rather than power, and that differentiates it from both the two other 2013s I tasted from Shafer, and many other 2013s. It retains terrific freshness and plenty of nuance but with less mid-palate heft than it had as a young wine. Crème de cassis, chocolate, spice, cedar and tobacco show just the first signs of aromatic nuance. - Antonio Galloni
Shafer Hillside Select 2013 is a full-bodied red wine produced from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in the Napa Valley of California. Shafer`s flagship is one of the most lauded California wines, made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon from Shafer`s hillside vineyards in the Stags Leap District. "Wonderful floral aromas with perfumed roses plus hints of blackcurrants and spearmint. Full-bodied and so powerful and muscular but always showing the brightness and beauty of fruit.
