Domaine Guiberteau is one of the leading producers in the Loire Valley, producing profoundly complex and ageworthy wines from the sublime hillside terroir of Brézé, in Saumur. Though the estate dates back to the 1900s, Romain did not assume control until 1996. However, in just a few years, and guided by the likes of Clos Rougeard’s Nady Foucault, he has elevated this 9.4-hectare domaine to the highest echelons of the region.
This Chenin Blanc is produced from vines planted between 1935 and 2012 from around the area of Brézé, including younger vine fruit from the revered vineyards of Clos de Guichaux and Clos des Carmes. This is a wonderfully alluring wine of broad texture, intense citrus and white orchard fruit and beautiful aromatic complexity. Pulsating with energy and with a saline tang to the finish, this is an exceptional pairing for fresh oysters.
