Castello dei Rampolla first produced Sammarco in 1980 and it can certainly be considered amongst the first Super Tuscan blends of international variety Cabernet Sauvignon with indigenous variety Sangiovese. The 1995 is a full-bodied, rich and complex wine particularly reminiscent of the finest wines of Pessac-Léognan. This is now approaching full maturity and would be excellent with slow cooked beef dishes.
