Though primarily known for the quality of their Zinfandel, Ravenswood Winery was also one of the first Californian producers to bottle singular varietal Merlot. Joel Peterson’s wines have a fabulous track record for aging and the 1998 is rich and sweetly fruited but has subtle nuances of woodsmoke and dark chocolate. An interesting wine for the curious-minded!
