Promontory Magnum 2010
Back in 1989, Bill Harlan discovered the remote, uniquely rugged piece of land that would eventually become the Promontory vineyard; however, its inaugural commercial release was only in 2009. Though also primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, the style of Promontory differs to Harlan Estate and Bond due to the distinctive terroir-derived character of the fruit. More tannic and often with greater acidity, shorter macerations and longer maturation in oak (5 years) are favoured to retain clarity and vivacity. The 2010 pulsates with energy and verve. Hugely voluminous in the mouth with a remarkable tannin profile, cascades of purple and black fruit are unleashed with subtle nuances of graphite, spices and herbs resonating beneath.
