Pichon-Lalande 1959 is a mature-vintage, Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux. Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a prestigious Pauillac Second Growth estate owned by Champagne Louis Roederer. The property is renowned for producing wines that offer beautifully ripe fruit, sumptuous texture and deep savoury complexity. "The 1959 Pichon-Lalande is one of current winemaker Nicolas Glumineau`s favourite vintages. It needs a little more encouragement from the glass than other mature vintages, but rewards you with gorgeous scents of red fruit, clove, chestnut and pressed roses. It ends up more complex and riveting than the 1961. The palate is silky in texture, corpulent and sensual, the Merlot very expressive, and the result almost Right Bank in style. Layers of copious raspberry laced with black pepper and tobacco are all very enticing. A ferrous tincture on the persistent finish is followed by traces of blood orange and menthol on the aftertaste. This is an outstanding 1959 that will give many more years of drinking pleasure. Tasted at a vertical tasting at the château." Vinous, 2017
