Philippe de Castaigne started producing cognac in 1860 and remained doing so until the end of the 19th century. His business ended up collapsing, most likely due to the phylloxera outbreak. In 1989, the brand was re-introduced by Philippe Valentin-Dulac, related to Philippe de Castaigne. The distillery’s old stocks where bottled and released under intriguing names such as Très Vieux, Extra Vieux, Reserve Ancienne Fins Bois, Napoleon and this Très Rare.
