Aged on the lees for 20 years, the 1985 vintage is an elegant blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. The year 1985 was marked by terrible winter frosts with temperatures plummeting to- 25 °C for several days, which led to significant damage in the vineyards of Champagne. Fortunately, wonderful weather from early July allowed for successful flowering, followed by hot, sunny weather in September resulting in a healthy and wonderfully mature harvest.
Due to the harsh weather conditions of winter, average yields were less than half that of a normal year, making this a rare find on the shelves. The 1985 vintage boasts exquisite elegance and concentration, one of the more racy of the second half of the twentieth century. A superb vintage Champagne, offering a very good balance between fruit and acidity.
