Nicolas Catena Zapata 300cl 2013
The inaugural release of Nicolas Catena Zapata was in 1997 and set a new standard of quality for premium wines from South America. It is made from over 200 separate microvinifications representing different rows of historic vines, altitudes and harvest times. The 2013 is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Malbec, aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. From a relatively cool vintage, this is imbued with sensational aromatic depth and complexity, but wonderful freshness and a delightfully elegant tannic framework. In larger format bottles, this should have excellent cellaring potential.
